What is the Stop QIP Dairy Tax Coalition?
Stop QIP Dairy Tax is a coalition of California dairymen who support the elimination of the Quota Implementation Program (QIP) as it provides an unfair pricing advantage to certain dairymen at the expense of others.
What is QIP?
With the FMMO put into place the QIP was created to impose a tax on all Grade A producers to pay the Quota holders $12 million a month.
What are the goals of the Stop QIP Dairy Tax Coalition?
The purpose of this coalition is to gather support for the termination of this new tax and establish a level playing field for all California dairymen.
Why do we need a coalition for this effort?
In order to put an end to the QIP tax, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) requires that a minimum of 25% of market milk producers submit petitions to amend or terminate the program. Our coalition exists to educate, answer questions and gather support to Stop the QIP.
Why should we end the Dairy QIP Tax?
We want to end the QIP because it is a tax without any benefit to non-quota holders and those quota holders who hold less than 25%. $12 million each month is a staggering amount of money that producers must come up with every month, to pay a minority of other producers. As dairymen continue to go out of business, something must be done today!
